VICTORY

Even the smallest victory is never to be taken for granted. Each victory must be applauded, because it is so easy not to battle at all, to just accept and call that acceptance inevitable.

Perhaps one of the biggest mistakes we can make is neglecting to acknowledge and celebrate our little victories. Whether it’s in the form of positive feedback from a teacher about our child, an enjoyable family outing to a museum, or watching the way our son reads a story to his little sister—these are victories! Ditto our successful efforts toward personal improvement, such as a five-pound weight loss or a commitment to read more. Our little successes tell us we are doing something right and should give us the incentive to do more.

On this day, I will congratulate my child for some success, no matter how small.
