There’re a lot of chance encounters in life. To come from where I come from and go to college when I was bound for the shipyards, to graduate from the University of Chicago, that’s a lot of serendipity and chance.
Something dawned on me, like a big light bulb over my noggin. I suddenly understood that I didn’t know a hell of a lot about anything. What it was that seemed to move me then was that learning was important.
