WHITE PEOPLE

First off, most white folks simply don’t care about us one way or another, and many of those who are negatively disposed toward us are probably inclined to dismiss or mistreat any group of people they judge to be powerless.

Let’s stop worrying about white people; let’s get some power! For our children, acquiring power translates into good grades, academic awards, involvement in school activities, and the development and recognition of special talents. While honors and awards are not an end in themselves, they provide our children with options for their lives and confidence in their abilities. Armed with these things, our children are less at the mercy of what white people think about them and more in control of their own destiny.

Call to Action:  On this day, I will take five minutes to talk to my child about what she likes and dislikes in school, ways to make the subjects she dislikes more appetizing, and areas in which she needs to improve.
