LABELING

Everybody loves a fool, but nobody wants him for a son.

—Malinke Proverb

What do we see when we look at our child? A fool, or someone with a gift for making people laugh? A nerd, or a decent, intellectually gifted person?

What may seem a disadvantage in youth may account for success in adulthood. The awkwardness will fade, the ragged edges will be smoothed, and our child will learn to express all aspects of his personality in order to integrate himself with ease into the social flow.

Call to Action: On this day, I will take five minutes to think of what might seem a disadvantageous trait in my child, and imagine how it might fade or transform into a positive trait in the future.
