DISCOURAGEMENT

Gray skies are just clouds passing over.

—Duke Ellington

Not one of us is without our gray days. Our children, too, have their fair share of disappointments and difficult moments. The real danger comes when we create our own thick cloud of negativity and despair, which hangs over us day in and day out. In our gloom, we cease to recognize opportunities and the good that life has to offer.

Call to Action: On this day, I pledge when my children are feeling blue, to tell them they’ll feel better after a good night’s sleep, or urge them to look forward to summer days ahead. In other words, I will note the transitory nature of things so that they don’t feel overwhelmed by bleak feelings.
